Is Digital Gaming a Mental Disorder ?

Like anything done in excess, it becomes an obsession. The UN has declared Gaming a mental disorder (have they got nothing else to do).
But is this just the latest of human behaviour to be pathologised as so. This is just a digital one. What about gambling or chess or any endeavour which becomes all comsuming.
But for many it is fleeting and is changed by other concerns, only a few are effected by it.
So what is your opinion ?

I'd only call it a disorder if it inhibits one from functioning(not going to work so they can play more games, etc.). Nothing wrong with someone gaming for hours on end as long as they still know to attend to their responsibilities, but that goes for any type of addiction.

Yes, the rewarding nature of gaming, like gambling, is one in the same thing given excessive use.

Like other triggers of addiction, it can also have underlying causes.  Unlike gambling, drugs or alcohol, gaming addiction is a keen study point with addiction in the very young.  Plus, along with so called "loot boxes" and the "pay to win" models of games these days, that too is gambling, in countries that have described it as such.

So with youth addiction, excessing gaming, introducing gambling concepts and the rewarding mechanisms of games, I can clearly see it can be an addiction as a gamer myself.

Like you guys have said, when it becomes addiction; it can be classified as a mental disorder.  I've never met a person online or in real life that has a video gaming addiction; because people who have it, you'd more than likely never meet or know.
